3 Ways Pittsburgh Will Own 2016

2015 was a year of change for Pittsburgh. Old businesses closed. New restaurants opened. The skylines all across the area are (and will soon be) changing with latest developments: new apartments in Lawrenceville, an office building Oakland, condos in the Strip District, and this skyscraper in Downtown Pittsburgh.

By many accounts, 2015 was a good year for Pittsburgh. And this is why 2016 will be even better.

1. Fine Art is Taking Center Stage

Pittsburgh’s art galleries — like Mendelson Gallery, which is celebrating 40 years in 2016 — have been around for decades, paving the way for art to enter the spotlight in the area nicknamed Steel City and Iron City.

2. Pittsburgh is Becoming Tech City

A spokesperson for Oculus, the company behind the virtual reality headset, confirmed this week that the company will be joining other high-tech companies in Pittsburgh in the near future, leasing space in the newly built Schenley Place in Oakland.

Google has offices in Pittsburgh’s East End neighborhood and Apple will have offices in 3 Crossings in the Strip District.

3. New Traditions Reign

Pittsburgh was the site of several inaugural annual events last year, making residents and visitors eager even more endless activities in an area with already limitless amenities.

The Strip District Music Festival in January, the Pittsburgh Humanities Festival in March, and Picklesburgh in July are just three of the newest traditions to join the host of events happening in the Pittsburgh area throughout the year.
