6 Winter Adventures Worth Adding to Your Bucket List

Thinking of bundling up and hibernating in your home this winter? Don’t. There are just as many (if not more!) things to do in Pittsburgh in the winter as there are in the summer. These activities are a must for any Pittsburgh resident. Stay safe and have fun!

1. Go Ice Skating in Downtown Pittsburgh

Grab your skates or rent a pair and head to the outdoor ice rink at PPG Place, located in the heart of Downtown Pittsburgh. The rink is open now through February 26th. Special events include Princess Skate with the Snow Queen (January 29th), skating with Stanley Cup champion Phil Bourque (February 1st), and family night (Tuesdays through February 21st).

2. Hit the Slopes with a Ski Club

Love the rush of adrenaline you get when flying down the slopes? Join a local ski club. Pittsburgh Ski Club, Steel on Ice, and the Western Pennsylvania Ski Council venture near and far to popular skiing destinations in Pittsburgh and beyond.

3. Grab Your Sled and Head for the Hills

Allegheny County’s rolling hills make great sledding spots when the snow falls. Take your sled to Pittsburgh’s most popular sledding hills: Flagstaff Hill at Schenley Park, Blue Slide Playground at Frick Park, and Dormont Park, for instance.

4. Go Tubing at Boyce Park

Looking for a little winter fun outside of Pittsburgh? Head to Boyce Park in South Allegheny County. This park is a popular destination for skiing, but its snowboarding park is not one to miss.

5. Learn to Snowshoe at Hartwood Acres Park

Hartwood Acres Park is a gem in North Allegheny County, and it’s where you can learn to snowshoe this winter. The “Beginner Snoeshoeing” class takes place on February 26th from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM. You can pre-register on the Allegheny County Parks website.

6. View the Snowy Scenery from Mt. Washington

All this winter fun is sure to leave anyone hungry. After ice skating, tubing, skiing, or a fun winter stroll through downtown, make your way to Mt. Washington for a bite to eat, then soak in the incredible snow-covered Pittsburgh skyline from the overlook.
